SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of George A. Collias, who passed away on
4June 13, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, George Collias served as a United States Army
6paratrooper toward the end of World War II and was active duty
7in the Army Reserve for 28 years; he graduated from
8Northwestern University and the Loyola University School of
9Law; and
 
10    WHEREAS, George Collias had a five-year career as a lawyer
11at Baker McKenzie; he then launched a broadcasting company,
12Century Broadcasting; in 1964, he and a college friend bought
13their first FM radio station in St. Louis, Missouri; over the
14next 34 years, Century Broadcasting, a Chicago-based company
15headquartered in the John Hancock building, grew across the
16country, playing rock, jazz, and easy listening over the air
17waves in Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Denver, Boston,
18Dallas, Detroit, St. Louis, and Tampa; he sold the company's
19final hometown station, WPNT-FM, in 1996; and
 
20    WHEREAS, George Collias was a leader at the Hellenic
21Foundation and an active member of Leadership 100, an endowment
22fund for the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese that supports the

1ministries of the church; he loved to sail, travel, and spend
2time with his family; and
 
3    WHEREAS, George Collias was preceded in death by his son,
4Scott Dell, and his sisters, Eugenia Collias and Danae
5Kornaros; and
 
6    WHEREAS, George Collias is survived by his wife, Sharon
7Ann; his children, Chip (Cindy) Dell, Deborah (Scott) Dell, and
8Linda (Kurt) Berlin; his brother, Nick (Jane); his
9grandchildren, Jason, Ashley, and Rudy (Tricia) Dell and Eva,
10Oliver, and Abel Chamberlin; and several nieces and nephews;
11therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14George A. Collias, and extend our sincere condolences to his
15family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
16further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of George Collias as an expression of
19our deepest sympathy.
