2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the deaths of Paul Martin Freund and Dolores |
4 | | Sokolowski-Freund of McHenry, who passed away on August 2, |
5 | | 2017; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Paul Freund was born in McHenry to Herbert and |
7 | | Hilda Freund on October 31, 1931; he graduated from McHenry |
8 | | High School, where he was a three sport athlete; he served in |
9 | | the Korean War and was awarded a Bronze Star; he married Joan |
10 | | M. Scholz on April 30 1955; after her passing, he married |
11 | | Dolores Sokolowski on June 22, 2009; and |
12 | | WHEREAS, Dolores Sokolowski-Freund was born in Marquette, |
13 | | Michigan to Rita (Neault) and Thomas Mercure on February 2, |
14 | | 1937; she married Richard Sokolowski at St. Mary Church in |
15 | | McHenry on January 31, 1959; after his passing, she married |
16 | | Paul Freund on June 22, 2009; and |
17 | | WHEREAS, Paul Freund was a partner with his brother, |
18 | | Eugene, and his brother-in-law, Bob Freund, for the third |
19 | | generation of S.H. Freund & Son general contractors until he |
20 | | retired in 1990; and |
21 | | WHEREAS, Paul Freund's favorite destination was his |

1 | | beloved vacation home in northern Wisconsin; he loved to fish, |
2 | | garden, bowl, and enjoyed helping others; his favorite sport |
3 | | was baseball; he played 3rd base and pitched for the McHenry |
4 | | Shamrocks and later for Old Bridge Tavern; his generosity |
5 | | spilled over into more than a dozen different charities |
6 | | annually; and |
7 | | WHEREAS, Dolores Sokolowski-Freund was a pharmacy |
8 | | technician at McHenry Drugs for more than 15 years; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Dolores Sokolowski-Freund volunteered her time at |
10 | | FISH of McHenry Food Pantry, the McHenry County Farm Bureau Ag. |
11 | | Expo, the Sparrow's Nest Thrift Store and Donation Center, and |
12 | | the Pioneer Center for Human Services; spending time with her |
13 | | brother Butchie at the Pioneer Center meant the world to her; |
14 | | she was an active member and volunteer at St. Mary Catholic |
15 | | Church; her hobbies included bowling, card games, fishing, |
16 | | swimming, yoga, and traveling; she was very proud of her home |
17 | | improvement projects and always looked forward to working on |
18 | | new challenges; and |
19 | | WHEREAS, Paul and Dolores Freund enjoyed traveling, |
20 | | bowling, fishing, and being together; they loved their family |
21 | | and treasured family gatherings; and

22 | | WHEREAS, Paul Freund was preceded in death by his first |

1 | | wife, Joan; his parents; his brother, Eugene Freund; his |
2 | | sister, Joan Freund; his brother-in-law, George Gilpin; and his |
3 | | granddaughter, Jennifer Freund; Dolores was preceded in death |
4 | | by her first husband, Richard Sokolowski; her parents; and her |
5 | | siblings, Carol Ketchum, Gilbert Mercure, and Darrell Mercure; |
6 | | and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, Paul Freund is survived by his sons, Mark Freund, |
8 | | Steve (Trinette) Freund, and Chris (Nancy) Freund; his |
9 | | grandchildren, Ryan (Tiffany) Freund, Kaley Freund, Erin |
10 | | Freund, and Peyton Freund; his sister, Barbara Gilpin; his |
11 | | sister-in-law, Frances Freund; and his brothers-in-law, Robert |
12 | | Freund and Robert (Frances) Scholz; Dolores is survived by her |
13 | | son, Tom (Sue) Sokolowski; her granddaughters, Amanda (John) |
14 | | and Cassie; and her siblings, John (Jenna) Mercure, Rose |
15 | | (Wayne) Wirfs, Richard (Marge) Mercure, Donald (Judy) Mercure, |
16 | | and Butch Mercure; therefore, be it

17 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL |
18 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
19 | | Paul Martin Freund and Dolores Sokolowski-Freund, and extend |
20 | | our sincere condolences to their family, friends, and all who |
21 | | knew and loved them; and be it further
