SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of James Francis "Jim" Kammer, who passed away on May 31, 2017; and

WHEREAS, James Kammer was born in Freeport to Eliza J. (Schauer) and Ernest Kammer on December 19, 1943; he attended Freeport schools and his favorite and most influential experience while growing up was working with his father on the Illinois Central Railroad; he entered Northwestern University in 1961; he attended medical school at the University of Illinois, where he met his wife, Barbara, graduating in 1969; and

WHEREAS, James Kammer performed his residency in ophthalmology with the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary, finishing in 1973; he received a Master of Business Arts and a Juris Doctor from the University of Illinois, where he was inducted into Phi Kappa Phi; he practiced in Florida and then Decatur; he served as an examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology; and

WHEREAS, James Kammer had a love of politics and was a delegate to the 2016 Republican National Convention; he also had a love of history and enjoyed gaining new insights into historical perspectives of the Old Testament at the Urbana Theological Seminary; and

WHEREAS, James Kammer was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother; and

WHEREAS, James Kammer is survived by his wife, Barbara; his sons, Christopher and Nicholas; and his brothers, William and Richard; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of James Francis "Jim" Kammer, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of James Kammer as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
