SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Logan Stephen Palmer, Petty Officer Second Class, of Harristown, who passed away Monday, August 21, 2017, while serving his country aboard the USS John S. McCain in the South China Sea; and

WHEREAS, Logan Palmer was born in Decatur to Sidney and Theresa (Karcher) Palmer; he attended Northwest Christian School where he was baptized; he graduated from Sangamon Valley High School in 2012 and was an honor roll student; he graduated with high honors from Richland Community College in 2014; and

WHEREAS, Logan Palmer enlisted in the Navy in April 2016; he completed Basic Training and received further training in US Navy Class C School in San Diego; he finished third in his class; his first assignment was to the USS John S. McCain (DDG-56); and

WHEREAS, Logan Palmer was a member of Boy Scouts of America, Troop 43, where he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in 2011; he made an impression on everyone he met, and he will be greatly missed; and

WHEREAS, Logan Palmer was preceded in death by his grandfather, Ernest Karcher; and his uncles, Tim Gillispie and Ron Miller; and

WHEREAS, Logan Palmer is survived by his parents; his brothers, Austin and Kaleb; his sister, Madison; his grandparents, Robert and Martha Palmer and Ruth Karcher; his niece, Auroa Case; and his fiance, Lindsey Leishner; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Logan Stephen Palmer, Petty Officer Second Class, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Logan Palmer as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
