| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Rev. Janie A. Long of Wonder Lake, who |
| 4 | | passed away on August 31, 2017; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Rev. Janie was born in Lexington, Alabama to |
| 6 | | Nathan M. and Virgie Estelle (Chandler) Thornton on March 29, |
| 7 | | 1946; one of 14 children, she was raised on a farm outside of |
| 8 | | Lexington; she married John Alan Carter on June 10, 2006; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Rev. Janie was a longtime resident of Wonder Lake |
| 10 | | and was pastor of the Wonder Lake Pentecostal Church of God; |
| 11 | | she proudly founded and operated the Wonder Lake Church of God |
| 12 | | Food Pantry; she was active in her ministry in area nursing |
| 13 | | homes, as well as TV ministry on cable and on the Internet, |
| 14 | | primarily with her YouTube broadcasts; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Rev. Janie was preceded in death by her parents; |
| 16 | | her husband, John; her sisters, Helen (the late Arlon) Stamps |
| 17 | | and Dora (the late Marvin) Clemmons; her brothers, Kenneth (the |
| 18 | | late Addie) Gray, John D. Thornton, Oscar Thornton, G.W. (the |
| 19 | | late Jewel) Thornton, Bobby Thornton, and Robert Thornton; and |
| 20 | | her sister-in-law-, Janice Carter; and
|
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Rev. Janie is survived by her sisters, Lillie (the |
