SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Rev. Janie A. Long of Wonder Lake, who passed away on August 31, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Janie was born in Lexington, Alabama to Nathan M. and Virgie Estelle (Chandler) Thornton on March 29, 1946; one of 14 children, she was raised on a farm outside of Lexington; she married John Alan Carter on June 10, 2006; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Janie was a longtime resident of Wonder Lake and was pastor of the Wonder Lake Pentecostal Church of God; she proudly founded and operated the Wonder Lake Church of God Food Pantry; she was active in her ministry in area nursing homes, as well as TV ministry on cable and on the Internet, primarily with her YouTube broadcasts; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Janie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; her sisters, Helen (the late Arlon) Stamps and Dora (the late Marvin) Clemmons; her brothers, Kenneth (the late Addie) Gray, John D. Thornton, Oscar Thornton, G.W. (the late Jewel) Thornton, Bobby Thornton, and Robert Thornton; and her sister-in-law-, Janice Carter; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Janie is survived by her sisters, Lillie (the late Kenneth) Crosswhite and Katherine (Donnie) Roach; her brothers, James (the late Ora) Thornton, Neal (Milline) Thornton, and Richard (Shirley) Thornton; her loving nieces and nephews; her special friend, Allen Scott; her daughter, Thresa (Chris) Wait; and her grandson, Scott Priebe; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Rev. Janie A. Long, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and those who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Rev. Janie as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
