SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Helen M. Beutel of Joliet, who passed away on August 24, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Helen Beutel was born in Auburn to John and Cecilia Bedesky on December 21, 1930 and moved to Joliet with her family as a child; she graduated from the Cathedral of St. Raymond Grade School and St. Francis Academy in 1948; and

WHEREAS, Helen Beutel was a mother and homemaker first, but was also employed by the University of St. Francis for 20 years, serving in a variety of roles - financial aid administrator, accounts payable, and payroll clerk; and

WHEREAS, Helen Beutel was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, where she served as president of the Mother's Club and the Council of Catholic Women-Sacred Heart League; she worked on inaugurating and co-chairing the Cornfest and Octoberfest fundraisers; she was a member of the Joliet Rivals Club Auxiliary, St. Paul's Paulites, and the St. Ray's Seniors Club; and

WHEREAS, Helen Beutel was an avid bowler and golfer; she enjoyed time spent with her husband and friends playing cards, watching her grandchildren at sporting events, and playing with her great-grandchildren; she was sometimes known as the "Card Lady" for her habit of sending friends, relatives, children, and grandchildren birthday cards, anniversary cards, get well cards and, for the kids, two dollar bills; she kept the post office and Hallmark in business for years; and

WHEREAS, Helen Beutel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bob; her brother, John Bedesky; and her brothers-in-law, George Beutel and Richard Alsbury; and

WHEREAS, Helen Beutel is survived by her children, Chuck (Denise Clemens) Terdic and Karen (Dave) Terdic; her grandchildren, Matt (Stephanie) Terdic, Andy Terdic, Chris Terdic, and Megan Beutel; her twin great-grandchildren, Caleb and Madison Terdic; her sisters-in-law, Eileen Bedesky, Charlene (William) Kobe, Janet Alsbury, and Eleanore Beutel; her brothers-in-law, James (Joann) Beutel and Gordon (Nancy) Beutel; her good friend and "lunch buddy", Jennie Perkins; and numerous nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Helen M. Beutel, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Helen Beutel as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
