2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Archie L. McKelvie of Rock Island, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on September 16, 2017; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Archie McKelvie was born in Alexis to Archie Logan | ||||||
6 | and Fern McKelvie on September 20, 1925; and | ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Archie McKelvie served in the United States Army | ||||||
8 | during World War II and the Korean War; during World War II, he | ||||||
9 | served in Europe with the Third Army, 80th Division Company G | ||||||
10 | 317th Infantry; he was awarded three overseas Service Bars, the | ||||||
11 | European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 4 Bronze | ||||||
12 | Battle Stars - Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and | ||||||
13 | Central Europe - plus the Purple Heart and the World War II | ||||||
14 | Victory Medal; he was wounded at Eolschuiller, France on | ||||||
15 | November 26, 1944; during the Korean War he served with the | ||||||
16 | 399th Ordnance Battalion, a unit comprised of men from the | ||||||
17 | Quad-City area; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Archie McKelvie worked for the U.S. Army Weapons | ||||||
19 | Command at the Rock Island Arsenal for over 30 years; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Archie McKelvie was a member of the Two Rivers | ||||||
21 | Methodist Church for over seven decades; he was also a Mason, a |

1 | Shriner, and a member of the VFW, the American Legion, and the | ||||||
2 | Moose and Elks Clubs; he was a member of the Sons of the | ||||||
3 | American Revolution and was the descendant of over 16 | ||||||
4 | Revolutionary Patriots; both of his grandfathers served in | ||||||
5 | Illinois volunteer units during the Civil War; and | ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Archie McKelvie enjoyed music and singing; he was | ||||||
7 | a member of his church choir for many decades and active in | ||||||
8 | several barbershop quartet groups; he participated in many | ||||||
9 | musical competitions, most notably the CASI Senior Olympics, | ||||||
10 | winning many awards; he was honored to have been named to their | ||||||
11 | Hall of Fame; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Archie McKelvie was preceded in death by his | ||||||
13 | parents and his siblings, Jane Pempek, Clyde Raymond McKelvie, | ||||||
14 | and Joan Deuger; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Archie McKelvie is survived by his sons, Ronald, | ||||||
16 | Robert, and Daniel; his grandchildren, Kevin and Eric McKelvie | ||||||
17 | and Jennifer Fielder; six great-grandchildren; his longtime | ||||||
18 | companion, June Britton; and his brother-in-law, Don Deuger; | ||||||
19 | therefore, be it

20 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
21 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
22 | Archie L. McKelvie, and extend our sincere condolences to his |

1 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
