SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Mario Augusto Estrada, who passed away on August 9, 2017 after a noble struggle against cancer; and

WHEREAS, Mario Estrada was born in Chicago to Miguel and Lilian Estrada on May 28, 1971; he spent all of his life in, and was a proud resident of, the southeast side of Chicago, where he attended George Washington High School; and

WHEREAS, Mario Estrada worked in the trucking industry for the majority of his life, eventually becoming an owner/operator; he had a passion for the trucking industry and his work, both of which became second nature to him; and

WHEREAS, Mario Estrada was known as an incredibly hard-working and reliable man; his priority was his family and his greatest passion was caring for his children; whatever they needed came first and he put all of his heart into making a loving and caring life for them; it was his greatest desire to see them strive and succeed; and

WHEREAS, Mario Estrada was affectionately known as "Papa Bear", and like a bear, he was recognized as a protector who symbolized courage, physical strength, and leadership; and

WHEREAS, Mario Estrada was also noted for having a wonderful sense of humor; he got along with everyone he met and knew how to put a smile on people's faces with his unique laugh and his many jokes; and

WHEREAS, Mario Estrada was passionate about cars; he had collections of both model cars and actual automobiles; he took great pleasure in being able to fix and restore one of his favorites to his exacting standards; and

WHEREAS, In 2016, Mario Estrada was diagnosed with cancer and underwent surgery; he began donating regularly to the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital as a way to make a difference; he did not want children to suffer as badly as he had; and

WHEREAS, Mario Estrada is survived by his wife, Liliana Guevara Estrada; his children, Mario Augusto Estrada Jr., Lizbeth Lilian Estrada, Mario Alejandro Estrada, and Julian Augusto Estrada; his parents; his siblings, Mayra Estrada, Ingrid Izurieta, Marielcy Romero, Claudia Harvey, Susan Estrada, Miguel Estrada, and Carla Wenger; and numerous friends and family; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Mario Augusto Estrada, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Mario Estrada as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
