SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of John "Jack" Phalin of McHenry, who passed
4away on September 18, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Phalin was born on a farm in south McHenry to
6Thomas and Ellen (Spencer) Phalin on January 30, 1927; he
7served in the United States Navy and married Marilyn J. Kerns
8at St. Patrick Catholic Church in McHenry on February 7, 1948;
9and
 
10    WHEREAS, John Phalin held various jobs, including working
11at his grandfather Spencer's feed mill, the McHenry Ice Cream
12Factory, and many years of sales positions; he owned and
13operated Jack's Sunrise Grocery and Liquor in McHenry from 1968
14until his retirement in 1988; and
 
15    WHEREAS, John Phalin was affectionately known as "Smiling
16Jack"; he was a life member of Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge
17691 and American Legion Post 491; he marched in the rifle squad
18and enjoyed camping and spending time with his family; he also
19enjoyed taking his annual trip to Florida to visit his
20grandchildren; and
 
21    WHEREAS, John Phalin was preceded in death by his parents;

1his wife of 63 years, Marilyn; his brother, William (Mary)
2Phalin; and his grandsons, Jonathan C. Bowles and John Alan
3Bowles; and
 
4    WHEREAS, John Phalin is survived by his children, Alan
5(Karen Crones) and Jacleen "Jackie" (Jim) Bowles; his
6grandchildren, Vanessa (Mike) Prather, Jim Bowles (Loretta
7Sizemore), Kelsy Marquart, Karlie Crones, and Jamie Crones; his
8great-grandchildren, Jimmy Bowles and Casey Prather; his
9brothers, Larry (Pat) Phalin and Don (Arlene) Phalin; his
10sister, Trisha McDaniel; and many nieces and nephews;
11therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14John "Jack" Phalin, and extend our sincere condolences to his
15family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
16further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of John Phalin as an expression of our
19deepest sympathy.
