| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Dr. Joseph Matthew Saban of Lakewood, who |
| 4 | | passed away on September 29, 2017; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Joe Saban was born in South Elgin to Joseph and |
| 6 | | Dragica (Stilinovic) Saban on December 31, 1946; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Joe Saban began his career in education, teaching |
| 8 | | science to junior high and then high school students; after |
| 9 | | several years of teaching, he transitioned to the position of |
| 10 | | Assistant Superintendent in Charge of Finance at District 155 |
| 11 | | in Crystal Lake; he later became Superintendent of Schools for |
| 12 | | the district and earned his Doctorate of Education; during his |
| 13 | | tenure, he facilitated the building of Prairie Ridge High |
| 14 | | School; after retiring from District 155, he became a Professor |
| 15 | | at Northern Illinois University, where he trained masters and |
| 16 | | doctoral students in educational leadership; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Joe Saban had a favorite saying; he believed in |
| 18 | | "doing what's right for kids"; he lived his life that way, both |
| 19 | | for the children of his community and his family; he liked |
| 20 | | nothing better than spending time with his children and |
| 21 | | grandchildren; his favorite moments were spending time on the |
| 22 | | beach, walking along a trail in a national forest, or sitting |
