2 | | WHEREAS, Research shows that investing in healthy child |
3 | | development reduces the likelihood of a significant array of |
4 | | costly conditions, including chronic health problems, |
5 | | premature mortality, lowered educational achievement, lost |
6 | | productivity, mental illness, violent crime, substance abuse |
7 | | and addiction, and the perpetuation of abuse and neglect; and

8 | | WHEREAS, Child abuse and neglect affects over one million |
9 | | children every year, including more than 100,000 children in |
10 | | Illinois; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Prevent Child Abuse America was founded in 1972 in |
12 | | Chicago and has worked for the last 45 years to promote the |
13 | | healthy development of children and prevent child abuse before |
14 | | it can occur; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Prevent Child Abuse America supports families, |
16 | | children, and communities through its 50-state Chapter Network |
17 | | and 600-site Healthy Families Network, which includes 37 sites |
18 | | in Illinois; and
|
19 | | WHEREAS, Prevent Child Abuse America advocates for |
20 | | policies and programs that promote healthy child development |
21 | | and prevent child abuse and neglect from occurring in the first |
