| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Herbert Arthur "Herb" Henderson of |
| 4 | | Tremont, who passed away on October 13, 2017; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Herb Henderson was born in Delavan to Virgil and |
| 6 | | Ramona Naffziger Henderson on June 12, 1921; he graduated from |
| 7 | | Mackinaw High School in 1940 and joined the United States Army |
| 8 | | in 1942, serving with the 30th Infantry Division, "Old |
| 9 | | Hickory"; he took part in the landing on Omaha Beach on June |
| 10 | | 10, 1944, D-Day plus 4; he fought in the Battle of the Bulge |
| 11 | | and was awarded a Bronze Star and Purple Heart; he returned |
| 12 | | home in 1945 aboard the Queen Mary and married Ruth Evelyn |
| 13 | | Schwinn in Tremont on July 24, 1948; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Herb Henderson worked for Caterpillar for 36 |
| 15 | | years, retiring in 1982; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Herb Henderson was a member of the Tremont Baptist |
| 17 | | Church, Tremont Masonic Lodge 462, and a charter member of |
| 18 | | Tremont American Legion Post 1236; he enjoyed basketball and |
| 19 | | listening to his country music; he flew to Washington, D.C., on |
| 20 | | the inaugural Greater Peoria Honor Flight in June of 2013; and

| 21 | | WHEREAS, Herb Henderson was preceded in death by his |
