SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Douglas R. McCumber of Tuscola, who passed away on September 26, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Doug McCumber was born in Urbana to Raymond R. and Kathryn M. Ellis McCumber on October 13, 1949; he graduated from Tuscola High School in 1967; as a student, he was elected co-captain of the basketball team and was a member of National Honor Society; he then attended the University of Illinois, where he was a member of the Delta Sigma Epsilon professional fraternity and a James Scholar; he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and graduated with high honors in 1972; after graduation, he served in the Illinois National Guard; he married Rhonda L. Gensler on July 21, 1979; and

WHEREAS, Doug McCumber began his career at the Continental Illinois National Bank in Chicago; he then joined the Tuscola National Bank and served as Vice President; he then became President and Chairman of the Board of First National Bank of Douglas County, now known as First Mid-Illinois Bank & Trust; in November 2000, he joined The First National Bank of Arcola as President & Director and served there until his retirement on June 30, 2012; and

WHEREAS, Doug McCumber served as President of the Tuscola Rotary Club, Tuscola Chamber of Commerce, and the Tuscola Community Development Corporation; he was a founding director and served ten years as Treasurer of the Tuscola Community Foundation; he was a Little League and Senior League Baseball Division coach, Biddy Basketball coach, girl's softball coach, and Treasurer of the Tuscola Junior Football League; he was known as "the Voice of the Warriors" and served 43 years as the field announcer for the Tuscola Warrior football program; he was named Grand Marshal of the 1987 Tuscola High School Homecoming parade; in recognition of his business achievements, he was elected into the Tuscola High School Hall of Fame in 2010; and

WHEREAS, Doug McCumber was a devoted member of the Tuscola United Methodist Church, where he participated in Bible study and served on the Board of Trustees, Capital Stewardship campaigns, and as Chairman of the Finance Committee; in 1986, he was recognized as "Tuscolian of the Year"; he was a member of the Tuscola Rotary Club for 45 years and was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow recognition; he was named Rotarian of the Year in 1992 and 2009; the Tuscola Masonic Lodge #332 presented him with the Community Builder Award; he was a lifetime member of the University of Illinois Alumni Association and was honored to be a member of the University of Illinois President's Council and the I Fund's Olympian Club; and

WHEREAS, Doug McCumber was an avid fan of Illini and Tuscola Warrior sports programs; he was a lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals; he loved to spend time with his family, travel, and attend sporting events; he enjoyed helping others; and

WHEREAS, Doug McCumber was preceded in death by his father; and

WHEREAS, Doug McCumber is survived by his wife, Rhonda; his son, Matthew McCumber; his daughter, Marissa (Matt) Franks; his mother, Kathryn McCumber; his brother, Thom (Teri) McCumber; his sister, Kathy (Larry) Glabe; and his grandsons, Lane, Colt, and Clay Franks; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Douglas R. McCumber, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Doug McCumber as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
