| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
| 3 | learn of the death of Pastor William "Bill" James King of Zion, | ||||||
| 4 | who passed away on September 21, 2017; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, William King was born in Memphis, Tennessee to | ||||||
| 6 | Charles Robert Walls Sr. and Susie Applewhite on October 2, | ||||||
| 7 | 1950; he had six siblings, Gloria (Damien) Blanchard, Angeline | ||||||
| 8 | Banks, Walter R. Applewhite Jr., Barry (Lorraine) Applewhite, | ||||||
| 9 | and Walterine (Elroy) Applewhite, and he was the oldest; he | ||||||
| 10 | grew up in Memphis with his grandparents, Mason and Florence | ||||||
| 11 | King; he eventually moved to Waukegan and graduated from | ||||||
| 12 | Waukegan Township High School in 1968; upon graduation, he | ||||||
| 13 | attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where he | ||||||
| 14 | received a Bachelor of Arts in Art Education; he furthered his | ||||||
| 15 | education at National Louis University, where he received at | ||||||
| 16 | Master of Science in Education Leadership; he later completed | ||||||
| 17 | required coursework at Roosevelt University for his Doctorate | ||||||
| 18 | in Education; he married Pamela D. King on July 20, 1974; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, William King began his career in education as a | ||||||
| 20 | Fine Arts teacher with the Waukegan Community Unit School | ||||||
| 21 | District #60; while with the Waukegan School District, he | ||||||
| 22 | worked as an art teacher, Assistant Principal, Associate | ||||||
| 23 | Principal, and Coordinator of Fine Arts for the entire | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | district; he was also employed with the North Chicago Unit | ||||||
| 2 | School District as Dean of Students, Athletic Director, | ||||||
| 3 | Assistant Principal, and Principal; after 36 years in | ||||||
| 4 | education, he retired from the North Chicago Community Unit | ||||||
| 5 | School District #187 as the Principal of Marjorie P. Hart | ||||||
| 6 | Elementary School; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, William King received several awards throughout | ||||||
| 8 | his career, including Who's Who Among America's Teachers; he | ||||||
| 9 | was recognized as a North Shore Art League Scholar, an | ||||||
| 10 | Outstanding Educator by the National Association of University | ||||||
| 11 | Women, and as a Lake County Most Influential Educator; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, William King served as a member on several boards, | ||||||
| 13 | including the Community Coalition United for Education, the | ||||||
| 14 | Illinois Law Advisory, and the Lake County Urban League Board; | ||||||
| 15 | during his time as an educator, he also served as a coach for | ||||||
| 16 | boys track and varsity football; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, William King joined the First Corinthian | ||||||
| 18 | Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Eugene | ||||||
| 19 | Roberson; during his membership, he served as a Deacon, | ||||||
| 20 | Associate Minister, a choir member, and the Superintendent of | ||||||
| 21 | Sunday School; he became an ordained minister and served as a | ||||||
| 22 | member of the North Shore Ministers Alliance; he also served as | ||||||
| 23 | secretary of the New Era District; he was installed as the | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | Pastor of Christian Love Missionary Baptist Church; and
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, William King loved teaching, whether inside a | ||||||
| 3 | classroom or on the field; he found joy in mentoring youth and | ||||||
| 4 | inspiring them to reach their fullest potential; he was an | ||||||
| 5 | artist and loved to create masterpieces; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, William King was preceded in death by his | ||||||
| 7 | grandparents, Mason and Florence King; his aunt and uncle, | ||||||
| 8 | Catherine and Charlie Smith; his uncle, J.B. King; and his | ||||||
| 9 | father-in-law, C.J. Bankston; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, William King is survived by his loving wife, | ||||||
| 11 | Pamela; his children, William (Rochelle) King, Kaliina (Larry) | ||||||
| 12 | Fenner, and Kyle King; his grandchildren, Amani Rochelle King, | ||||||
| 13 | Jalen James Fenner, William C. King II, Nyla Marie Fenner, and | ||||||
| 14 | Malakai Jeremiah Bloom-King; and his many nieces, nephews, | ||||||
| 15 | godchildren, students, and dear friends; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 16 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 17 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 18 | William "Bill" James King and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
| 19 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
| 20 | further
| ||||||
| 21 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
