SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3learn of the death of John Alan "Al" "Doc" Lewin of 
4Springfield, who passed away on October 28, 2017; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Al Lewin was born in Kankakee to Robert F. "Bud" 
6and Priscilla L. Hardy Lewin on December 13, 1957; he graduated 
7from Cullom High School in 1976 and then from the University of 
8Illinois firefighting school; he married Donna R. Hillyard on 
9April 12, 1985; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, Al Lewin spent his career teaching and training 
11others in the emergency medical field; he retired from the 
12Illinois State Police after 32 years of service; he worked for 
13Dunn's Ambulance Service, Auburn Area Ambulance, and American 
14Ambulance; he served on both the Cullom and Divernon Fire 
15Departments; currently, he was employed as the Emergency 
16Medical Services Educator at St. John's Hospital; and
  
 
17    WHEREAS, Al Lewin was dedicated to helping others, whether 
18it was giving a pep talk or assisting during a medical 
19emergency; he never met a stranger and made it a daily goal to 
20bring a smile to others; his dedication to the Emergency 
21Medical Services world brought a wealth of knowledge to those 
22he taught or served with; he saved countless lives; he was a

1member of Westside Christian Church; and
  
 
2    WHEREAS, Al Lewin was preceded in death by his parents; and 
3his brother-in-law, Norman Kunkle; and
  
 
4    WHEREAS, Al Lewin is survived by his loving wife, Donna; 
5his daughters, Kimberly (John) Dougherty and Alyssa J. Lewin; 
6his sisters, Patricia "Patty" (Gary) Ferrero, Cindy "C.J." 
7Magee, and Lori Kunkle; his brothers, Robert "Bobby" (Yong) 
8Lewin and Larry Lewin; and his many nieces and nephews; 
9therefore, be it
  
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL 
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
12John Alan "Al" "Doc" Lewin and extend our sincere condolences 
13to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be 
14it further
  
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
16presented to the family of Al Lewin as an expression of our 
17deepest sympathy.
