| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Zia Hassan Ph.D., who passed away on |
| 4 | | October 29, 2017; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Hassan received
his bachelor's degree in |
| 6 | | mechanical engineering at the University of Punjab in Pakistan |
| 7 | | and migrated to United States in the 1956; he earned his |
| 8 | | master's degree in l958 and his doctorate in 1965 in industrial |
| 9 | | engineering from the Illinois Institute of
Technology, Chicago |
| 10 | | (IIT); and |
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Hassan began his career as a lecturer at IIT |
| 12 | | in the early 1960s and became Dean of the Stuart School of |
| 13 | | Business; he taught business
policy and quality management; he |
| 14 | | published over 30 papers, co-authored Basic Programs for |
| 15 | | Production and
Operations Management, and wrote the chapter |
| 16 | | "Design of Interrelated Manufacturing and Quality
Systems" in |
| 17 | | the Manufacturing High Technology Handbook; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Hassan was a Fellow of the American
Society |
| 19 | | for Quality and served as an examiner for the Malcolm Baldrige |
| 20 | | National Quality Award; he was one of the founding members and |
| 21 | | the
first chairman of board of trustees for the Islamic |
| 22 | | Foundation in Villa Park; he was chairman of
the Islamic |
