SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Greg Murrey of Fox Lake, who passed away on November 15, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Greg Murrey was born in Waukegan to Thomas D. and Loretta (Buikema) Murrey on February 21, 1956; he graduated from Grant Community High School in 1975; and

WHEREAS, Greg Murrey was head mechanic, "Doctor of Motors", for the Grant Township Highway Department for over 39 years; he was a senior trustee for the Village of Fox Lake for 18 years and a longtime member of the Fox Lake Volunteer Fire Department, achieving the rank of chief engineer; he was also co-owner of Price Services with his brother, Dave; and

WHEREAS, Greg Murrey was a past board member of the Grant Township Republican Party; he was a member of the National Association of Railcar Operators Association, the National Rifle Association, and Sons of the American Legion Post 703; he played Santa Claus for the Fox Lake Chamber of Commerce of Industry for many years and was an avid fan and season-ticket holder of the Chicago Bears; and

WHEREAS, Greg Murrey was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, David and Thomas R. Murrey; and

WHEREAS, Greg Murrey is survived by his soul mate, Mary Ellen Johnson; his son, Jimmy Soutar; his siblings, Kathleen (John) Pletz and Patrick (Ginny) Murrey; his nieces and nephews, Jonathon Pletz, Alexandra (Dennis) Sommers, Matthew Pletz, Angela Pletz, Zac Pletz, and Kelly (Mike) Haidacher; Papa's favorite, Jackson Haidacher; and many great-nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Greg Murrey, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Greg Murrey as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
