SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of George Putnam Schermerhorn of Moline, who passed away on November 27, 2017; and

WHEREAS, George Schermerhorn was born on his family's farm in Chatfield, Minnesota to Freeman and Eva Williams Schermerhorn on September 11, 1923; he served in the U.S. Army in France during World War II and married Alice Shafer in East Moline on July 18, 1947; after her passing, he married Carol Kennedy Forsyth in Cancun, Mexico on April 17, 1984; and

WHEREAS, George Schermerhorn was the owner of George P. Schermerhorn Insurance, a State Farm agency, for over 30 years, retiring in 1985; he previously worked for the East Moline Post Office and Prudential Insurance; and

WHEREAS, George Schermerhorn was a member of Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church in Rock Island; Doric Lodge No. 319, AF & AM, Moline; Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Moline; Kaaba Shrine Temple; and Moline American Legion Post No. 246; he was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and enjoyed golfing, traveling, and wintering in Arizona; and

WHEREAS, George Schermerhorn was preceded in death by his first wife, Alice; his second wife, Carol; his daughter, Mary Melissa Howe; and his siblings, Glenn Schermerhorn, Helen Lundquist, Dorothy Ferrier, and Steven Schermerhorn; and

WHEREAS, George Schermerhorn is survived by his sister, Mary Carson; many nieces and nephews and their families; his stepdaughters, Kathleen (Jack) Reimers and Jeannine Forsyth and their families; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of George Putnam Schermerhorn, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of George Schermerhorn as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
