SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3learn of the death of Charles Robert Goodwin of Zion, who 
4passed away on December 18, 2017; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Charlie Goodwin was born in Zion to Howard Charles 
6Goodwin and Frances Catherine (Grom) Goodwin on April 29, 1931; 
7he graduated from Warren High School and played 
8semi-professional football with the Lake County Rifles and the 
9Racine Raiders; he served honorably with the United States 
10Army; he married Mary Catherine Casterton on June 20, 1953; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, Charlie Goodwin was a lifelong farmer; he began 
12his farming career on the Casterton/Goodwin Family Farm, where 
13he worked until 1992; he then worked with Richards Farms until 
14October 2017; he founded Goodwin Racing in 1967, which began a 
15legacy that he shared with his sons, Greg and Jeff, and 
16eventually his grandson, Garrett; and
  
 
17    WHEREAS, Charlie Goodwin was a lifelong member of the North 
18Prairie United Methodist Church; he served on the Board of 
19Directors of the Newport Township Fire Department for more than 
2020 years; he was humble and influenced many people; he enjoyed 
21snowmobiling, racing, long road trips in the country, and all 
22things John Deere; most importantly, he dearly loved his family

1and friends; and
  
 
2    WHEREAS, Charlie Goodwin was preceded in death by his 
3parents; and his siblings, Ruthie Humphrey, Howard Goodwin, 
4Richard Goodwin, Virginia Benson, and Thomas Goodwin; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Charlie Goodwin is survived by his wife, Mary 
6Goodwin; his children, Greg (Pat) Goodwin, Cindy Goodwin 
7(Steve) Padden, Sheryl Goodwin Magiera, and Jeffrey (Deanna) 
8Goodwin; his grandchildren, Chanel (Broc) Crider, Tyler 
9(Lyndsey) Padden, Jordan Padden, Andrew Magiera, Garret 
10Goodwin, Garrick Hodge, Kelsey Hodge, Hannah Magiera, and Chase 
11Goodwin; and his great-grandchildren, Nora Padden and Cash 
12Crider; therefore, be it
  
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL 
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
15Charles Robert Goodwin and extend our sincere condolences to 
16his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it 
17further
  
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
19presented to the family of Charlie Goodwin as an expression of 
20our deepest sympathy.
