| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Alva E. Shouse Jr. of Coal Valley, who |
| 4 | | passed away on January 3, 2018; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Alva Shouse was born in Gibbs, Missouri to Alva E. |
| 6 | | Sr. and Jessie Pearl Williams Shouse on July 25, 1932; he |
| 7 | | served in the U.S. Army as a cook during the Korean War and |
| 8 | | liked to tell the story of when he was a cook for a chain of |
| 9 | | restaurants around the country that were owned by his "Uncle |
| 10 | | Sam"; he married Carmella Degen in Rock Island on May 26, 1972; |
| 11 | | and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Alva Shouse worked for the John Deere Foundry in |
| 13 | | Silvis for 27 years, retiring as a supervisor in 1985; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Alva Shouse was affectionately known as "Pappy" |
| 15 | | and "Shorty"; he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and reading; he |
| 16 | | loved his dogs and, above all else, his family was the most |
| 17 | | important thing to him; therefore, be it
|
| 18 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL |
| 19 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 20 | | Alva E. Shouse Jr., and extend our sincere condolences to his |
| 21 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
