| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Philip J. Kennedy of Rock Island, who |
| 4 | | passed away on January 4, 2018; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Philip Kennedy was born in Rock Island to Joseph |
| 6 | | P. Kennedy and Anne Heidmann Kennedy; he attended schools in |
| 7 | | Rock Island and Davenport and graduated from St. Joseph High |
| 8 | | School; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Philip Kennedy enlisted in the United States Navy |
| 10 | | in 1942; he served active duty for 35 years; he participated in |
| 11 | | combat operations in World War II, in Korea, and in Vietnam; he |
| 12 | | served on 12 naval ships; he was awarded several combat-related |
| 13 | | medals and commendations; he was what is known in the Navy as a |
| 14 | | "Mustang"; he retired as a Commander, USN in 1977; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Philip Kennedy was a member of St. Mary Catholic |
| 16 | | Church; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Philip Kennedy was preceded in death by his |
| 18 | | sister, Mary Ellen Stoker; and an infant son; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Philip Kennedy is survived by his wife of 73 |
| 20 | | years, Virginia Naab Kennedy; his son, Timothy; his daughters, |
