SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The pervasive damage caused by pornography is
3beyond the scope of any one individual to address; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Any efforts to prevent pornography exposure and
5addiction, educate individuals and families concerning its
6harms, and develop recovery programs must be addressed
7systemically in ways that hold broader influences accountable
8in order to counter the sexually toxic environment it
9perpetuates; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Pornography is more widespread and accessible
11than at any other time in American history; and
 
12    WHEREAS, The most vulnerable members of society, our
13children, are often exposed to pornographic material; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Pornography treats women as objects and
15commodities for the viewer's use, teaching girls that they are
16objects to be used and teaching boys that this is acceptable
17behavior; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Pornography normalizes violence and abuse of
19women and children and treats them as objects; and

1    WHEREAS, Pornography equates torment and violence against
2women and children with pleasure, increasing the demand for sex
3trafficking, prostitution, child sexual abuse images, and
4child pornography; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
6ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize that
7pornography harms the State and its citizens; and be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That we recognize the need for education,
9prevention, research, and policy change at the community and
10societal level in order to address the epidemic that is harming
11the citizens of Illinois and the country as a whole.
