SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois Senate pays honor and respect to the truly great individuals who have served our country and, in doing so, have gone above and beyond the call of duty in truly heroic acts; and

WHEREAS, Jeffrey Allen Williams was born in Kansas City, Missouri to Sandra Smith on February 23, 1985; he graduated from Wheaton Warrenville South High School in 2003; and

WHEREAS, Jeffrey Williams joined the United States Army after high school, achieving the rank of Corporal; he was deployed to Iraq in February of 2005 where he valiantly served as an Army Medic in Operation Iraqi Freedom; and

WHEREAS, For his heroism, Jeffrey Williams was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart, the Army Commendation Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, and the Combat Medic Badge; and

WHEREAS, Jeffrey Williams was killed in action while serving his country on September 5, 2005 in Iraq; and

WHEREAS, Jeffery Williams had a deep connection to the Warrenville Post Office due to running errands to help his mother and, in doing so, he befriended many of the employees; and

WHEREAS, Jeffrey Williams' service to our nation deserves recognition; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we urge the U.S. Postal Service to rename the Warrenville Post Office in honor of Jeffrey Allen Williams to honor his heroic service to our nation; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be delivered to Postmaster General of the United States Megan J. Brennan, President Donald Trump, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, U.S. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, U.S. Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, U.S. House of Representatives Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, and all members of the Illinois Congressional Delegation.
