| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
| 3 | learn of the death of Allen Frederick Bennett, who passed away | ||||||
| 4 | on Wednesday, November 29, 2017; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Allen Frederick Bennett was born to the late Leo | ||||||
| 6 | and Donna Bennett on August 29, 1943 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois; | ||||||
| 7 | and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Allen Frederick Bennett earned a bachelor's | ||||||
| 9 | degree in business commerce from the University of Illinois in | ||||||
| 10 | 1965; he graduated law school from the University of Tennessee | ||||||
| 11 | and received his Juris Doctor in 1967; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Allen Frederick Bennett began his distinguished | ||||||
| 13 | public service career in 1968, when he was elected State's | ||||||
| 14 | Attorney of Moultrie County, Illinois; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Allen Frederick Bennett, shortly thereafter, | ||||||
| 16 | served as the Public Defender of Macon County before his | ||||||
| 17 | election as State Representative from Decatur in 1976; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Allen Frederick Bennett also served as an | ||||||
| 19 | Assistant Attorney General and later as a lobbyist for the | ||||||
| 20 | Fraternal Order of Police, Trooper's Lodge #41 and Illinois | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | Fraternal Order of Police, State Lodge; and
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Allen Frederick Bennett served the people of | ||||||
| 3 | Illinois by being one of the few to serve in all three branches | ||||||
| 4 | of Illinois Government: The General Assembly, Executive, and | ||||||
| 5 | Judiciary; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Allen Frederick Bennet practiced law privately in | ||||||
| 7 | Sullivan, Decatur, Springfield, and Shelbyville before being | ||||||
| 8 | elected Resident Circuit Judge of Shelby County, 4th Judicial | ||||||
| 9 | Circuit in 2012; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Allen Frederick Bennett was preceded in death by | ||||||
| 11 | his parents, Leo and Donna Bennett; and his sister, Suzie | ||||||
| 12 | Rudin; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Allen Frederick Bennett is survived by his wife, | ||||||
| 14 | Tina Bennett; his children, Tammera McClendon, Allen Bennett | ||||||
| 15 | II, and Trina Bedlington; his sisters, Katie (Byron) Cartwright | ||||||
| 16 | and Sally (James) Hooten; his eight grandchildren; his four | ||||||
| 17 | great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews; | ||||||
| 18 | therefore, be it

| 19 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 20 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 21 | Allen Frederick Bennett and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
| 2 | further
| ||||||
| 3 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 4 | presented to the family of Allen Frederick Bennett as an | ||||||
| 5 | expression of our deepest sympathy and regards.
