SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of John D. Hoppe of rural Danvers, who passed away on January 23, 2018; and

WHEREAS, John Hoppe was born in Lima, Ohio to George and Mary K. Sweeney Hoppe on November 4, 1940; he graduated from Trinity High School and Illinois State University; and

WHEREAS, John Hoppe worked for Eureka-Williams for 34 years, attaining the position of vice president of international sales and marketing; and

WHEREAS, After an early retirement, John Hoppe chose a quiet life in the countryside; he often enjoyed time on his tractor and sitting by his pond, which he called his "church"; he was a big fan of Illinois State University Redbird Athletics; he played baseball during his time there and had reserved seats to their basketball games for many years; and

WHEREAS, John Hoppe married the love of his life, Sandy Shepherd Hoppe, his best friend and soulmate for 42 years; he was the father of two daughters, Michelle Hoppe and Kelley Hoppe (Troy) Wickenhauser, and a son, Sean Hoppe; he often spoke of his amazing grandchildren, Cody (Kelsey) Wickenhauser, Cami Wickenhauser (Jeff) Mayfield, Austin (Holly), and Addison Hoppe; he was totally captivated by his one great-grandson, Noah Wickenhauser, the apple of his eye; special people in his life included his sister-in-law, Marilee Alvey, his daughter-in-law, Christine Veale Hoppe, his special friend, "Angel" Roberts, and each of his neighbors; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of John D. Hoppe, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of John Hoppe as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
