2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Deacon Philip Patrick Sailer of Rock |
4 | | Island, who passed away on January 31, 2018; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Deacon Philip Sailer was born in St. Augustine to |
6 | | Claire and Margaret Kennedy Sailer on January 20, 1933; he |
7 | | graduated from Marmion Academy in Aurora, and he then attended |
8 | | St. Norbert's College; he served in the United States Army |
9 | | during the Korean Conflict; he received his bachelor's degree |
10 | | and his master's degree from Western Illinois University; he |
11 | | married Margaret F. "Marge" Tornabane in Fort Dodge, Iowa on |
12 | | July 25, 1960; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Deacon Philip Sailer began his long and |
14 | | distinguished career at St. Edmond's Catholic High School in |
15 | | Fort Dodge in 1959; he joined the staff of Alleman High School |
16 | | when he and his wife relocated to Rock Island in 1961; during |
17 | | his 47 years at Alleman, he taught, coached, and served as a |
18 | | counselor; he retired from teaching in 2009; he was ordained as |
19 | | a Permanent Deacon for the Diocese of Peoria and assigned to |
20 | | St. Pius in 1997; and
|
21 | | WHEREAS, Deacon Phil Sailer was a member of St. Pius X |
22 | | Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Allouez 658 |

1 | | Council; his life was his family, his church, and his students; |
2 | | and
|
3 | | WHEREAS, Deacon Philip Sailer was preceded in death by his |
4 | | parents; his sisters, Sister Andre Sailer, Ann Pica, and |
5 | | Kathleen Boone; and his brother, Thomas Sailer; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Deacon Philip Sailer is survived by his wife, |
7 | | Marge; his daughters, Mary Jo (Robert) Marriott, Lisa (Scot) |
8 | | Wilkins, Christine Vretis, and Patty Aldridge; his |
9 | | grandchildren, Brianne (Matt) Barr, Zachary Neuerburg, Brooke |
10 | | Marriott, Baylee Marriott, Andre Marriott, Sam Wilkins, Luke |
11 | | Wilkins, Angelica Vretis, Annalise Baird, and Philip Baird; his |
12 | | great-grandson, Maxwell Barr; and his many nieces and nephews; |
13 | | therefore, be it

14 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL |
15 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
16 | | Deacon Philip Patrick Sailer and extend our sincere condolences |
17 | | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be |
18 | | it further

19 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
20 | | presented to the family of Deacon Philip Sailer as an |
21 | | expression of our deepest sympathy.
