| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of William Moreland "Bill" Kuhne of |
| 4 | | Champaign, who passed away on February 2, 2018; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Bill Kuhne was born in Urbana to Robert and |
| 6 | | Elizabeth Cook Kuhne on July 6, 1932; he graduated from |
| 7 | | University High School in 1948; he earned a Bachelor of Arts in |
| 8 | | Economics from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1952; he married |
| 9 | | Doris Anne "Susie" Blair in Columbus, Ohio on June 15, 1957; |
| 10 | | and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Bill Kuhne was a proud third-generation general |
| 12 | | contractor; he started on his path to success with Jones & |
| 13 | | Laughlin Steel Company in 1952; he then joined the family |
| 14 | | construction business, Kuhne Simmons Company in 1956, which |
| 15 | | eventually led to his leadership role at Petry-Kuhne Company in |
| 16 | | Champaign; he was quietly proud of the impact the companies and |
| 17 | | their projects made on the campus of the University of |
| 18 | | Illinois, around Champaign-Urbana, and throughout Central |
| 19 | | Illinois; and
|
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Bill Kuhne was an active member of the Central |
| 21 | | Illinois Builders, the Association of General Contractors, and |
| 22 | | the American Institute of Contractors; he served in many |
|

| 1 | | leadership roles, including chairing multiple subcommittees |
| 2 | | and serving in executive committee positions; he also inspired |
| 3 | | the next generation of contractors by participating on the |
| 4 | | construction advisory committees at Bradley University and |
| 5 | | Iowa State University; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Bill Kuhne was an active member of the community; |
| 7 | | he was a lifelong member of the Community Foundation of |
| 8 | | Champaign County, a past chairman of the Champaign County |
| 9 | | Regional Planning Commission, a past president of the Champaign |
| 10 | | Rotary Club, a past president of the Champaign Country Club, a |
| 11 | | past director of the Champaign Chamber of Commerce, and a past |
| 12 | | chairman of the City of Champaign Plan Commission; he was |
| 13 | | elected to the Champaign City Council and during his tenure |
| 14 | | also held the position of deputy mayor; he was also an active |
| 15 | | member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, where he served |
| 16 | | as an elder and trustee; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Bill Kuhne was an avid golfer and held the proud |
| 18 | | distinction of a hole-in-one at the Champaign Country Club; he |
| 19 | | and his wife enjoyed many great adventures with the late Fred |
| 20 | | and Betty Blythe, their good friends; he was a loving and |
| 21 | | devoted husband, brother, father, grandfather, and |
| 22 | | great-grandfather; and
|
| 23 | | WHEREAS, Bill Kuhne was preceded in death by his friends |

| 1 | | and business partners, Jim Sullivan and Bill Dallenbach; and
|
| 2 | | WHEREAS, Bill Kuhne is survived by his wife, Susie; his |
| 3 | | daughters, Nancy (David) Welsh and Karen (Robert) Sibert; his |
| 4 | | grandchildren, Katharine (Joel) Bonasera, Libby Glass, Laura |
| 5 | | Sibert, and David Sibert; his great-grandchildren, Quinten and |
| 6 | | Jane Anne Bonasera; his brother, Christopher (Sandy) Kuhne; his |
| 7 | | sister-in-law, Caroline Blair Ettinger; and his many cousins, |
| 8 | | nieces, and nephews; therefore, be it
|
| 9 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL |
| 10 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 11 | | William Moreland (Bill) Kuhne and extend our sincere |
| 12 | | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved |
| 13 | | him; and be it further
|
| 14 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 15 | | presented to the family of Bill Kuhne as an expression of our |
| 16 | | deepest sympathy.
