SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Donna Ruth Kuhlman of Savoy, who passed
4away on December 19, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Donna Kuhlman was born in Galesburg to Floyd and
6Doris Walker on June 2, 1938 and raised on a farm in Knox
7County; growing up, she was active in 4-H and won numerous
8county and state awards for sewing and cooking; she was awarded
9the 4-H Key Club Award for her outstanding projects and
10activities; she graduated from Western Illinois University
11with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics and married Don
12Kuhlman in Galva on June 24, 1962; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Donna Kuhlman was employed as an Assistant Home
14Adviser in Adams County by the University of Illinois
15Cooperative Extension Service; she taught high school in
16Gillespie from 1961 to 1962; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Donna Kuhlman was an excellent cook and seamstress
18and judged sewing projects at the Illinois State Fair for
19several years; she also collected cookbooks and thousands of
20recipes and enjoyed preparing many delicious meals for her
21family and friends; she was outgoing and enjoyed helping
22others; she was an avid Illini football and basketball fan; she

1and Don had season tickets for 50 years and traveled to
2football games in every Big 10 football stadium; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Donna Kuhlman was a member of the First
4Presbyterian Church of Champaign; she served as a
5Congregational Care Deacon and was a member of the Circle of
6Joy, Prayer Ministry Team, and Pakistan Study Group; she served
7as a 4-H Club leader in Montgomery County and a Cub Scout
8leader in Champaign; she was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority,
9where she served as an officer; she was a member of the
10Champaign-Urbana Home Economists, where she served as
11treasurer from 2003 to 2006; she was also a member of the
12Women's Club at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign;
13and
 
14    WHEREAS, Donna Kuhlman enjoyed flowers and birds,
15especially cardinals; at various times, she had six to eight
16different types of bird feeders, including one that she
17fashioned herself that was very effective in protecting seed
18and birds from predators; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Donna Kuhlman accompanied her husband to
20Peshawar, Pakistan from 1992 to 1994, where Don worked on a
21project funded by USAID; she enjoyed living in Pakistan and
22made many Pakistani friends; she and Don enjoyed traveling to
23Egypt, India, Thailand, China, Eastern Europe, Europe, Africa,

1and throughout the U.S.; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Donna Kuhlman and Don celebrated her 70th birthday
3on June 2nd on a cruise to Alaska; while in Alaska, they flew
4in a ski plane around Mt. McKinley and landed on Ruth Glacier;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Donna Kuhlman was preceded in death by her
7parents; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Donna Kuhlman is survived by her sons, David and
9Daniel Kuhlman, and numerous cousins; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12Donna Ruth Kuhlman, and extend our sincere condolences to her
13family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
14further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Donna Kuhlman as an expression of
17our deepest sympathy.
