2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of John Fitzallen Moore, who passed away on | ||||||
4 | January 31, 2018; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, John Moore was born in London, England to American | ||||||
6 | poets, Louis Untermeyer and Virginia Moore on February 23, | ||||||
7 | 1928; he was born John Moore Untermeyer and was renamed after | ||||||
8 | his parents divorced; he grew up in Italy, Spain, Switzerland, | ||||||
9 | and at his mother's home in Scottsville, Virginia; he was | ||||||
10 | educated at the High Mowing School in New Hampshire, the | ||||||
11 | Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he co-founded the | ||||||
12 | Tech Model Railroad Club, and Harvard University; he earned his | ||||||
13 | Ph.D. in Physics from Columbia University, with a thesis | ||||||
14 | proving the greenhouse effect of carbon dioxide on the surface | ||||||
15 | temperature of the planet Venus; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Work in the field of medical electronics and x-ray | ||||||
17 | products led to John Moore founding Bio-Imaging Research, Inc. | ||||||
18 | (BIR) in Lincolnshire in 1980; among many other technologies, | ||||||
19 | BIR devised improvements for computed tomography (CAT) | ||||||
20 | scanners; he retired as Chairman of the Board and CEO of BIR in | ||||||
21 | 2007; and
| ||||||
22 | WHEREAS, John Moore held over 20 patents; he was named KPMG |

| |||||||
1 | Peat Marwich High Tech Entrepreneur of the Year in 1987; he | ||||||
2 | also received the Arthur Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award | ||||||
3 | in 1989; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, John Moore served as member and Chairman of the | ||||||
5 | Naval Surface Weapons Board of the U.S. Naval Research Advisory | ||||||
6 | Committee for several years; he was also a member of the | ||||||
7 | scientific honor society Sigma Xi; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, John Moore's retirement was filled with a | ||||||
9 | continued enthusiasm for family, hobbies, and international | ||||||
10 | travel; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, John Moore was preceded in death by his daughter, | ||||||
12 | Deborah, and his son, Robin; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, John Moore is survived by his wife, Betty-Ann; his | ||||||
14 | children, Laurel (Michael White) Moore, Marjorie (John) Fish, | ||||||
15 | Sheila (James) Kaplan, Christopher (Tracy Conrad) Moore, and | ||||||
16 | Jonathan Moore; his 12 grandchildren; his eight | ||||||
17 | great-grandchildren; his brother, Laurence Untermeyer; his | ||||||
18 | sister-in-law, Jean Jorgenson; and his nieces and nephews; | ||||||
19 | therefore, be it

20 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
21 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |

2 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
