| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Thomas D. "Tom" Cooney of Woodstock, who |
| 4 | | passed away on February 10, 2018; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Tom Cooney was born in Woodstock to Herbert T. and |
| 6 | | Mary E. (Hurley) Cooney on July 6, 1923; he served in the U.S. |
| 7 | | Army Air Corp during World War II and married Irene S. Shereda |
| 8 | | in Woodstock on May 26, 1951; he married Jane Conerty on |
| 9 | | February 6, 1997; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Tom Cooney returned to Woodstock where he worked |
| 11 | | in finance for several organizations; he joined McHenry County |
| 12 | | Title Company/Chicago Title in 1959, where he worked in several |
| 13 | | capacities until being elected president in 1979; he retired in |
| 14 | | 1986; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Tom Cooney volunteered with many organizations; |
| 16 | | he was a past president of the Easter Seal Society of McHenry |
| 17 | | County; he served on the St. Mary School Board and coached |
| 18 | | basketball for St. Mary School for 10 years; he donated his |
| 19 | | time to the Woodstock Food Pantry, Food For The Poor, PADS, and |
| 20 | | was a strong advocate for the Right To Life; he was a life |
| 21 | | member of St. Mary Catholic Church and was a member and past |
| 22 | | Grand Knight of the Woodstock Knights of Columbus; he was an |

| 1 | | avid golfer and enjoyed spending the winter months in Green |
| 2 | | Valley, Arizona; and
|
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Tom Cooney was preceded in death by his parents; |
| 4 | | his first wife, Irene Cooney; his brothers, Judge James H. |
| 5 | | (Karlen) Cooney, Leo F. (Jean) Cooney, and Donald J. (Beatrice) |
| 6 | | Cooney; his grandson, Timmy Nelson; and Clare Conerty and Mark |
| 7 | | Conerty; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Tom Cooney is survived by his wife, Jane Cooney; |
| 9 | | his children, Megan (Robert) Nelson and David Cooney; his |
| 10 | | grandchildren, Tommy (Kayln) and Christina (Fanio) Nelson; his |
| 11 | | great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Andrew, Elizabeth, Noah, and Nya; |
| 12 | | his Conerty family, Mary (Al) Stilling, Patricia (Terry) |
| 13 | | Clarke, John (Kate) Conerty, Marty Conerty, and their children |
| 14 | | and grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Mary Shereda; and |
| 15 | | numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews; |
| 16 | | therefore, be it

| 17 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL |
| 18 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 19 | | Thomas D. "Tom" Cooney, and extend our sincere condolences to |
| 20 | | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
| 21 | | further
