|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Helen Rawson Stroner, who passed away on |
4 | | February 10, 2018; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Helen Stroner was born at her grandfather's home |
6 | | in Chicago to John and Helen (Melka) Eminger on March 24, 1919; |
7 | | shortly after her birth, her family moved to Lombard, where she |
8 | | attended school and graduated from York High School in 1937; |
9 | | athletics and competition were an important part of her life; |
10 | | she played baseball for the women's league with the Elmhurst |
11 | | V8s; she married her coach, Bill Rawson, on the baseball field |
12 | | before a game in 1940; he passed away in 1984, and she later |
13 | | married Irv Stroner in 1989, and they had five wonderful years |
14 | | together; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Helen Stroner worked for the National Tea Grocery |
16 | | and was eventually promoted to temporary store manager; after |
17 | | she and her husband moved to Woodstock, she worked at Guardian |
18 | | Electric, Oaks, and Arnold Engineering until her retirement in |
19 | | 1983; and
|
20 | | WHEREAS, Helen Stroner enjoyed traveling and was fortunate |
21 | | to go on family camping trips across the United States and to |
22 | | Hawaii, Alaska, Australia, and Europe; she fulfilled a lifelong |

1 | | dream when she attended the Summer Olympics in Montreal in |
2 | | 1976; in addition to traveling, she enjoyed bowling, gardening, |
3 | | bird watching, playing cards, and watching sports; she was a |
4 | | member of the Machinists Union, the Audubon Society, the |
5 | | Environmental Defenders, and the Farm Bureau, where she |
6 | | especially enjoyed participating in the Ag in the Classroom |
7 | | program; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Helen Stroner was preceded in death by her |
9 | | parents; her first husband, Bill; her second husband, Irv; an |
10 | | infant sister; an infant son; and many aunts, uncles, and |
11 | | cousins; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Helen Stroner is survived by her daughters, Janet |
13 | | Beck and Sally (Ken) Martine; her grandchildren, Collin (Holly) |
14 | | Beck, Todd Beck, and Elizabeth and Hannah Martine; and her |
15 | | great-grandson, Landon Beck; therefore, be it

16 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL |
17 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
18 | | Helen Rawson Stroner and extend our sincere condolences to her |
19 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it |
20 | | further
