|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Edgar C. "Ed" Staren, who passed away on |
4 | | March 25, 2018; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Ed Staren was born in Chicago to John and Louise |
6 | | Staren on June 23, 1932; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, Upon the death of his father, Ed Staren became |
8 | | President and CEO of the John E. Staren Company, founded by his |
9 | | father, in 1945; he eventually opened a subsidiary, The |
10 | | Starmill Company, in 1972; both companies were meat |
11 | | distributors and bought and sold product worldwide; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Ed Staren never took for granted how fortunate he |
13 | | was and gave back to his community; he supported over 75 |
14 | | charitable organizations regularly; those especially dear to |
15 | | him were the Special Olympics, where he was an original |
16 | | founding board member, the Evans Scholars Foundation, the |
17 | | ASPCA, and The Shrine of our Lady of Pompeii in Chicago; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, Ed Staren's family joined the Butterfield County |
19 | | Club in 1946 and has had a relationship with the club ever |
20 | | since; later in life, Ed joined the Butler National Golf Club, |
21 | | where he spent countless days on the course and was honored |

1 | | with the Man of the Year award in 2006, an honor voted on by |
2 | | fellow members; he will be remembered for his infectious smile |
3 | | and laugh, his generous heart, and his unending devotion to his |
4 | | family and friends; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Ed Staren was preceded in death by his parents; |
6 | | his wife, Mary Jo; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Donald |
7 | | and Bessie Devlin; and his sister, Emmy Lou; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Ed Staren is survived by his children, Ed, Ted, |
9 | | Barbara Ann, and Eric; his siblings, John and Carol; his |
10 | | grandchildren, Edgar T. (Amy), Daniel (Leslie), John (Meg), |
11 | | Anthony (Mary Beth), Michael, and Helen Staren, William |
12 | | (Alison), Madeline, and Austin Feldman, Dakota, and Kassidy |
13 | | Staren, and Tori, Ryan (Lauren), and Teddy (Partner Martha |
14 | | Pazdro) Bunt; his great-grandchildren, Eddie, Gracie, Danny, |
15 | | and Isabella, and two on the way; therefore, be it

16 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL |
17 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
18 | | Edgar C. "Ed" Staren and extend our sincere condolences to his |
19 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
20 | | further
