SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Russell L. Hartwick, formerly of Andalusia, who passed away on March 18, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Russell Hartwick was born in Lucan, Minnesota to Everett and Hattie (Dagner) Hartwick on July 9, 1930; at the age of 18, he became a teacher in a rural, one-room schoolhouse for grades one through eight; and

WHEREAS, After teaching for four years, he enlisted in the United States Air Force as a communications specialist; his service included 13 months stationed at Thule Air Force Base in Thule, Greenland during the Korean War; after serving his country for four years, he attended the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, where he received his degree in accounting; and

WHEREAS, While attending the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, Russell Hartwick worked for a division of General Motors, where he helped make missile guidance systems; while there, he met LaRayne Crandall, who later became his wife; after working for Wisconsin and the federal government, he started his own accounting firm and retired as a certified public accountant after 34 years; and

WHEREAS, Russell Hartwick was preceded in death by his parents and his brother and sister-in-law, LaVerne and Barbara Hartwick; and

WHEREAS, Russell Hartwick is survived by his wife, LaRayne; his sons, Jeff (Betty) and Bob (Emily); his grandchildren, Brad, Sara, Olivia, Kyle, Tristan, James, Lauren, Abigail, Seth, Lillian, and Teresa; and his great-granddaughter, Maddison; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Russell L. Hartwick and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Russell Hartwick as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
