SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of John H. Giesler of Mason City, who passed
4away on April 13, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Giesler was born in Shelbyville to Glen W.
6and Lela Caroline (Noffke) Giesler on December 22, 1952; he
7married Mardell Habing-Thomas in Shelbyville on June 20, 1980;
8and
 
9    WHEREAS, John Giesler was a former teacher and coach at
10Trinity Lutheran School in Stewardson, Stewardson-Strasburg
11High School, Roanoke-Benson High School, and Illini Central
12High School in Mason City until his retirement in 2014; he
13later was an assistant basketball coach at Lincoln College in
142015 and 2016; he coached baseball, golf, softball, and
15basketball; he led the 2012 Illini Central High School Cougars
16basketball team to a 3rd place Class 1A state finish and the
172013 Illini Central High School Cougars basketball team to the
18Class 1A State Championship; in 2018, he was inducted into the
19Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame; and
 
20    WHEREAS, John Giesler was a member of Christ Lutheran
21Church in Mason City; and

1    WHEREAS, John Giesler was preceded in death by his parents;
2his brother, James Giesler; and his sister, Jean Ashbaugh; and
 
3    WHEREAS, John Giesler is survived by his wife, Mardell; his
4children, Shane (Tiara) Thomas, Chad (Jamie) Giesler, Lance
5(Laural) Giesler, and Lindy Giesler; 10 grandchildren; his
6brother, Donald "Bill" (Sue) Giesler; and his sister, Janet
7(Jim) Arthur; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10John H. Giesler, and extend our sincere condolences to his
11family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
12further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of John Giesler as an expression of our
15deepest sympathy.
