2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of James P. "Jim" Stanczak of Waukegan, who |
4 | | passed away on April 9, 2018; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Jim Stanczak was born in Waukegan to John and Mary |
6 | | (Mitzy) Stanczak on October 13, 1934; he was raised in North |
7 | | Chicago; he earned a Bachelor of Science in Political Science |
8 | | at Bradley University, where he also walked on to the baseball |
9 | | team and set the stolen base record; he helped the Bradley |
10 | | Braves play their way into the College World Series, where he |
11 | | led the team in hitting; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Jim Stanczak retired from the United States Navy |
13 | | as a Captain and Vietnam Veteran; he was deemed the "best |
14 | | instrument pilot around" by his peers, which was a tremendous |
15 | | source of honor for him; he was also the former proprietor of |
16 | | Stanczak Lanes in North Chicago, Grand Bowl in Waukegan, and |
17 | | Sluggo's Sweets N Stuff in Zion; he was the former Regional |
18 | | Manager for the DMV and, most recently, the former Manager of |
19 | | Waukegan International Airport, where he revitalized the |
20 | | Northern Illinois Airshow/Wings Over Waukegan; he took pride in |
21 | | honoring veterans and bringing the thrill of aviation to the |
22 | | youth of Lake County; and

1 | | WHEREAS, Jim Stanczak was a member of the Waukegan City |
2 | | Club, the Lake County Board, the IPAA Board of Directors, the |
3 | | PRCU, the KSKJ, the Polish Legion of American Veterans, the |
4 | | Glen Flora CC, the Swedish Glee Club, and St. Anastasia Church, |
5 | | where he was a frequent usher; he was a Third Degree Knight of |
6 | | Columbus; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, Jim Stanczak received many honors, including the |
8 | | Lake County Men of Distinction Award and the Waukegan Cares |
9 | | Lifetime Achievement Award for Politicians in the Military; he |
10 | | was inducted into several local halls of fame, including the |
11 | | Bradley University Sports Hall of Fame, the Greater Peoria |
12 | | Sports Hall of Fame, the Lake County Sports Hall of Fame, and |
13 | | the upcoming Lake County Men's Bowling Hall of Fame; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, Jim Stanczak was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs |
15 | | and the Green Bay Packers; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, Jim Stanczak was preceded in death by his parents; |
17 | | his in-laws, John and Catherine Ferkin; his grandson, Derek |
18 | | Michael Pederson; his brothers, Lawrence, Leonard, Edward, and |
19 | | Samuel; and his sisters, Marcella, Geraldine, and Patricia; and
|
20 | | WHEREAS, Jim Stanczak is survived by his wife, Mary Kay; |
21 | | his daughter, Michelle (Mike) Pederson; his son, James J. "JJ" |
22 | | (Kelly Shields) Stanczak; his grandchildren, Samantha and |

2 | | his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be |

4 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL |
5 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
6 | | James P. "Jim" Stanczak and extend our sincere condolences to |
7 | | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
8 | | further

9 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
10 | | presented to the family of Jim Stanczak as an expression of our |
11 | | deepest sympathy.
