| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Charles W. "Charlie" Pohlman Jr. of |
| 4 | | Carlinville, who passed away on March 11, 2018; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Charlie Pohlman was born in Litchfield to Charles |
| 6 | | and Kathryn (Rebbe) Pohlman on April 7, 1956; he graduated from |
| 7 | | Gillespie High School, where he ran cross country, in 1974; he |
| 8 | | graduated from Illinois State University in 1978; he married |
| 9 | | Cathy Bruene in Gillespie on August 8, 1987; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Charlie Pohlman was a physical education and |
| 11 | | drivers education teacher; his first job was at |
| 12 | | Warrensburg-Latham; he then worked as a teacher and track coach |
| 13 | | at Girard High School; for several years, he was also in charge |
| 14 | | of a successful cross country program at Blackburn College; he |
| 15 | | retired from teaching and coaching in 2016, after 32 years of |
| 16 | | service; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Charlie Pohlman was in charge of the Black Diamond |
| 18 | | Day Race in Gillespie for 38 years; he enjoyed being outside |
| 19 | | and working in his yard, boating on Gillespie Lake with his |
| 20 | | brother and family, and spending time with his wife, children, |
| 21 | | and friends; he was honored to throw the first pitch at the St. |
| 22 | | Louis Cardinals' Charlie Pohlman Day; he was an avid reader; he |
