2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Merle David Engle of Bloomington, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on April 18, 2018; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, David Engle was born in Bloomington to Merle M. | ||||||
6 | and Helen (Anderson) Engle on March 22, 1943; he attended St. | ||||||
7 | Mary's Elementary and graduated from Holy Trinity High School | ||||||
8 | in 1961; he studied business at St. Ambrose College in | ||||||
9 | Davenport, Iowa; he served in the United States Marine Corps | ||||||
10 | Reserve from 1969 until 1971; he married Gala McConnell in Fort | ||||||
11 | Myers, Florida on March 1, 2010; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, David Engle began his career as an insurance | ||||||
13 | adjuster for Pekin Farmers Insurance and later in Yakima, | ||||||
14 | Washington; he also worked for the GM&O railroad; however, he | ||||||
15 | found a passion in sales and was the top salesman and business | ||||||
16 | manager at Barker Oldsmobile and Thornton Motors; his success | ||||||
17 | and independent spirit inspired him to purchase his own | ||||||
18 | dealership, Auto World; in 1982, he partnered to operate the | ||||||
19 | former Casella's as Casey Jones Lounge; by 1986, he was the | ||||||
20 | sole proprietor and renamed the restaurant the Winner's Bar & | ||||||
21 | Grill, and it was the oldest bar in town to be continually | ||||||
22 | owned by the same person; he also owned the Park View Inn in | ||||||
23 | the 1990s; and

1 | WHEREAS, David Engle was an avid golfer and earned many | ||||||
2 | accolades, including a national-level championship at the | ||||||
3 | Oldsmobile Scramble; he enjoyed spending the winter months in | ||||||
4 | Florida with his wife, entertaining his family with magic | ||||||
5 | tricks, and playing rummy and euchre with his friends and | ||||||
6 | family; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, David Engle was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
8 | and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, David Engle was a loving husband to Gala; he was a | ||||||
10 | dedicated brother to Jan Engle-Bandy and an uncle to her | ||||||
11 | daughter, Julie Jenkins; he was a caring father to Ryan | ||||||
12 | (Kristen) Engle, who are expecting their first child, and Brad | ||||||
13 | Engle; he was a doting grandfather to Abigail and Adam Engle, | ||||||
14 | the children of Ryan Engle and Vanessa Elder, and to Joey and | ||||||
15 | Matthew Ploense and Faith Foster-Engle, the children of Brad | ||||||
16 | Engle; therefore, be it

17 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
18 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
19 | Merle David Engle and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
20 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
21 | further
