2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Mark Edward Badasch of Collinsville, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on April 29, 2018; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Mark Badasch was born in St. Louis, Missouri to | ||||||
6 | Gerhard M. "Jerry" and Fay R. (Jaffee) Badasch on November 3, | ||||||
7 | 1947; his family moved to Southern California, where he | ||||||
8 | graduated from Westchester High School in 1965; in high school, | ||||||
9 | he was an avid musician; after high school, he joined the | ||||||
10 | United States Navy Reserves and attended Submarine School; in | ||||||
11 | 1968, he attended George Williams College in Downers Grove, | ||||||
12 | Illinois and majored in Group Work and Recreation; he married | ||||||
13 | Ann Shawler on September 20, 1969; he earned his bachelor's | ||||||
14 | degree in recreation from Indiana State University in 1973; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Mark Badasch began his career as the Assistant | ||||||
16 | Superintendent of Recreation for the Pekin Park District; he | ||||||
17 | was also the Youth Program Director and Camp Manager for | ||||||
18 | Neighborhood House in Peoria; he was hired as the Executive | ||||||
19 | Director of the first county park district in the state of | ||||||
20 | Illinois, Clark County, in 1977; he was instrumental in the | ||||||
21 | development of Mill Creek Park; in 1979, he accepted the | ||||||
22 | position of Director of Parks and Recreation in Roxana, where | ||||||
23 | he served for 15 years and was also a volunteer firefighter and |

1 | a member of the Roxana School Board; in 1994, he was named | ||||||
2 | Executive Director for the Collinsville Area Recreation | ||||||
3 | District (CARD); he was instrumental in the development of | ||||||
4 | SplashCity, Willoughby Heritage Farm, and Arlington Heights | ||||||
5 | Golf Course; he retired in 2011; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Mark Badasch dedicated his time to building | ||||||
7 | relationships and improving the community through membership | ||||||
8 | in the Wood River Rotary Club, the Kiwanis, the Southern | ||||||
9 | Illinois Parks and Recreation Association (SIPRA), the | ||||||
10 | Illinois Parks and Recreation Association (IPRA), where he was | ||||||
11 | president from 1998 until 1999, and the Illinois Association of | ||||||
12 | Park Districts (IAPD); and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, In retirement, Mark Badasch enjoyed traveling | ||||||
14 | with his wife, including a trip overseas to visit his daughter | ||||||
15 | in Jerusalem and to study genealogy in Berlin, Germany and | ||||||
16 | Poland; he became an avid volunteer, and eventually Director, | ||||||
17 | at the Greater St. Louis Air and Space Museum in Cahokia and | ||||||
18 | was on the board for the Cahokia Mounds Society; he enjoyed | ||||||
19 | singing in a barbershop quartet, antiquing with his wife, | ||||||
20 | collecting sulfide marbles, and admiring cars; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Mark Badasch was preceded in death by his father | ||||||
22 | and his father-in-law, Lyman K. Shawler; and

1 | WHEREAS, Mark Badasch is survived by his mother; his wife, | ||||||
2 | Ann; his children, Michael (Rose), Joshuah (Sarah), and Megan | ||||||
3 | Badasch; his grandsons, Jerry and Greyson; his step-grandsons, | ||||||
4 | David, Christian, and Zachary Mundy; his step-great-grandson, | ||||||
5 | Levi Mundy; his mother-in-law, Doris E. Shawler; his | ||||||
6 | stepmother, Shirley Head; his step siblings, Tim, Kevin, Shaun, | ||||||
7 | and Erin Gallagher and Kellie Gallagher-White; and his many | ||||||
8 | step-nieces, nephews, and extended family; therefore, be it
| ||||||
9 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
10 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
11 | Mark Edward Badasch and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
12 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
13 | further

14 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
15 | presented to the family of Mark Badasch as an expression of our | ||||||
16 | deepest sympathy.
