SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Jerome L. "Jerry" Riley of Woodstock, who
4passed away on April 20, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jerry Riley was born in Ferndale, Michigan to
6William H. and Clara Eve (Cardinal) Riley on November 17, 1926;
7he served in the United States Army with the HQ 9th Troop Reg
8GP from 1945 until 1947; he married Patricia J. Dittman in
9Woodstock on September 15, 1951; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Jerry Riley worked for the family business, Riley
11and Riley Mobil, from 1950 until 1972; he then worked at the
12other family business, Dittman Plumbing & Heating, until his
13retirement in 1991; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Jerry Riley was a charter member and Unit
15Representative for the Woodstock Boy Scout Troop 776; he was a
16member of St. Mary Church, the Woodstock Knights of Columbus,
17where he served as treasurer, and the Woodstock VFW Post 5040,
18where he participated in the Honor Guard; he had a passion for
19woodworking, and with his friend, Albert Idler, made furniture
20and toys for family and friends and worked on projects for St.
21Mary Church; he also enjoyed traveling with Patty in their RV,
22golfing, reading, and baseball; in his retirement, he joined a

1softball league; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Jerry Riley was preceded in death by his parents;
3his wife, Patricia; his brothers, Gordon, Donald, William, and
4David; his sisters, Mary T. McCarthy, Shirley Rose, and Phyllis
5Vintz; and his infant grandson, Roger Hahn; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Jerry Riley is survived by his children, Leo
7(Christine) Riley, Timothy Riley, Bridget (Craig) Parman, and
8Colleen (Frank) Gosser; his grandchildren, Meghan, Aaron,
9Christopher, Ian, Ryan, Alison, Kelly, Wes, Jeremy, and Alex;
10his 13 great-grandchildren; his sister, Audrey Meyer; his
11sister-in-law, Mary Lee Klabunde; his brother-in-law, William
12Dittman; and his many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Jerome L. "Jerry" Riley and extend our sincere condolences to
16his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Jerry Riley as an expression of our
20deepest sympathy.
