| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Hector Edelmiro Colon of Moline, who |
| 4 | | passed away on May 13, 2018; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Hector Colon was born at home in the mountain town |
| 6 | | of Penuelas, Puerto Rico to Edelmiro Colon and Carmen Colon |
| 7 | | Lugo on April 10, 1940; he moved to Chicago with his family in |
| 8 | | 1950 and graduated from the University of Illinois-Chicago; he |
| 9 | | graduated from Officer Candidate School at Ft. Benning, Georgia |
| 10 | | and went on to proudly serve in Vietnam; in January 5, 1968, |
| 11 | | his platoon of 32 men came under attack; he led his men in a |
| 12 | | battle, during which seven were killed and many were wounded; |
| 13 | | for his bravery and dedication to duty, he received the |
| 14 | | Distinguished Service Cross, the United States Army's |
| 15 | | second-highest award for valor; he married Margaret Clark in |
| 16 | | Honolulu, Hawaii, on March 1, 1968; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Upon returning to civilian life, Hector Colon |
| 18 | | began a 35-year career of government service; he retired from |
| 19 | | the Rock Island Arsenal in 2005; and
|
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Hector Colon was inducted into the Officer |
| 21 | | Candidate School Hall of Fame on May 8, 2017; and
