| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Julia "Becky" Lewis Smith, who passed |
| 4 | | away on May 7, 2018; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Julia Smith was born to Carl Hamilton Lewis and |
| 6 | | Mary Katherine Goff on December 5, 1939, the oldest of five |
| 7 | | children; she attended Holy Angels Catholic School and Church |
| 8 | | and then attended Saint Elizabeth Catholic High School; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Julia Smith worked at the Louise Burg Hospital, |
| 10 | | Michael Reese, and Mercy Hospitals, where she was a nurse; she |
| 11 | | also worked in the Security Department at Carson Pirie Scott; |
| 12 | | she retired from Carson's in 1994; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Julia Smith was an avid reader and community |
| 14 | | historian; as a Board Member, she was the beloved Sergeant at |
| 15 | | Arms of the Chesterfield Community Council for more than 25 |
| 16 | | years; she was also a former active member of the Happy Action |
| 17 | | Seniors at St. Joachim Church; she was a dependable volunteer |
| 18 | | and active in her community; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Julia Smith was preceded in death by her parents; |
| 20 | | her husband, Samuel Jerome Smith; her brother, James H. Lewis; |
| 21 | | and her sister, Mary R. Cleary; and
