SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Gladys Piat, who passed away on June 2, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Gladys Piat was born in Granton, Wisconsin to Anna and Herman Riedel; she moved to Illinois and received a secretarial certificate from Lake Forest College and a nursing certificate from St. Therese Hospital; and

WHEREAS, Gladys Piat started her career as an executive secretary at Abbott Laboratories before leaving to raise her family; she then worked for several Waukegan physicians and area firms as a bookkeeper; and

WHEREAS, In retirement, beginning in 1980, Gladys Piat enjoyed volunteering at Vista Hospital with her husband, Walter; she most recently knitted caps for newborn babies; for over 65 years, she was a faithful member of Trinity United Church where she served in many capacities; and

WHEREAS, Gladys Piat was preceded in death by her parents; her son, David; her sisters, Gertrude, Frances, Lovella, Adelma, and Florence; and her brothers, Harold and Herman; and

WHEREAS, Gladys Piat is survived by her sons, Vince (Cheri) and Michael; her daughter-in-law, Jane; her sisters, Dolores and Ione; her grandchildren, Michelle (Mark) Donnelly, Caitlin (Jeff) Thompson, Benjamin Piat, Daniel and Jonathon Piat, and Zach Kalk; her great-grandchildren, Finn and Beckett Donnelly, Theodore Chandler, and Harrison Thompson; and Ben's girlfriend, Caitlin Talbot, and her daughter, Jade Lunsford; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Gladys Piat, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Gladys Piat as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
