SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Joseph L. "Joe" Adler of Joliet, who passed away on June 9, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Joe Adler was born to Joseph L. and Rachel Marie (Heintz) Adler on August 30, 1930; he attended St. Raymond Grade School, Joliet Catholic High School, and the University of Notre Dame; he served in the United States Air Force at Dow Air Force Base in Bangor, Maine and Misawa Air Force Base in Misawa, Japan; he married Jodie Biddle in 1952; and

WHEREAS, Joe Adler was past president of the J.L. Adler Roofing and Sheet Metal Company; founded in 1926, it is now a 4th generation company, with his three sons, three grandsons, and a granddaughter continuing the tradition of professional roofing and sheet metal work in Joliet and the northern Illinois area; and

WHEREAS, Joe Adler was a past president of the Chicago Roofing Contractors Association, past board member of the Vilaseca Day Care Center and the Boys and Girls Club of Joliet, and a founding member of the Will County Habitat for Humanity, the Spanish Community Center of Joliet, and the University of Notre Dame Senior Alumni Board; and

WHEREAS, Joe Adler and his wife were members of the Sacred Heart Parish Community in Joliet; during the winter months, they attended Mary Mother of Jesus Inclusive Catholic Community in Sarasota, Florida; and

WHEREAS, Joe Adler and his wife were regional directors of the Christian Family Movement; they founded the Will County Conference on Religion and Race and the Spanish Community Center, for which they received recognition by the State of Illinois Senate for their work; they were members of the Chicago Catholic Jewish Dialogue Partnership and founded the Nationwide Tip the Maids Movement and the Young Christian Nurse's Movement; and

WHEREAS, Joe Adler was an avid sports fan; he built shrines for the Cubs and Notre Dame; one of his favorite treats was sharing a ball game with his sons, grandchildren, and sister; he loved Notre Dame and felt that the values of Notre Dame went far beyond football; and

WHEREAS, Joe Adler was preceded in death by his wife, Jodie; his parents; his infant daughter, Margaret Mary; his son, Michael; and his brother, Jack (Dorothy) Adler; and

WHEREAS, Joe Adler was a loving father, foster father, grandfather, and great-grandfather to Dan Adler and family – Jake (Megan) and son, Julian, Rachel (Robert) Ayoung Chee and two sons, Evan and Ian, Emma, Josh, and Nathan; Teddy (Ray) Finney and family – Bridget (Brad) Thomas and their daughters, Izzy and Ellie, Emily (Nanasei) Agyemang and their sons, Quentin, Finney, and Akosah, Jenna (Brian) Murphy and their children, Mary, Michael, and Bridget, Lily Saavedra White (Chris) and their children, Eric, Jessica, and C.J., and Beth (Jack) McGrath; Jackie (Sam) Tucci and family – Sam IV (Andrea) and their son, Sam V, Tony, Jeff (Annika) Tucci and their son, Peter; Chris (Lori) Adler and family – Meghan (AJ) Vivaldelli and their daughter Elizabeth, Matt (Katie), CJ, and Sarah; the late Mike (Joanne) Adler and family – Kelly (Eric) Mutch, Mike (Caitlin) and their children, Benjamin and Caroline, Erin (Dave) Skaggs and their daughter, Sophia, and Collin (Gail); and Jay (Patty) Adler and family – Jenny, Joe IV (Elisabeth) and their sons, Joseph V and Caleb and Jon (Amber); foster children, Mardo Caceres and Joy Basilisco and her son, Aaron; Joe was also blessed with one sister, Mary Beth (the late Dr. Arthur) Wilhelmi, brother-in-law, Fr. Ward Biddle, sisters-in-law, Jackie (late John) Berg and Ed Smith, and Mimi (late John) Aisthorpe; Joe was an inspirational uncle to numerous nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Joseph L. "Joe" Adler, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Joe Adler as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
