2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Richard Lee "Dick" Emery of Crystal Lake, | ||||||
4 | who passed away on July 17, 2018; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Dick Emery was born in Altadena, California to | ||||||
6 | Talitha Youngblood and Francis Eric Emery on May 21, 1938; his | ||||||
7 | family lived briefly in Pasadena, where he attended St. Peter's | ||||||
8 | Catholic School through the second grade; his family then moved | ||||||
9 | to Concord, where he was a student at Queen of All Saints | ||||||
10 | School and a graduate of Mount Diablo High School, where he | ||||||
11 | played football and baseball; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, In 1957, Dick Emery enlisted in the U.S. Navy to | ||||||
13 | pursue his dream of flying; in 1958, he entered officer | ||||||
14 | candidate school and flight training as a member of the Naval | ||||||
15 | Aviation Cadet Drill Team "58" at NAS Pensacola; he earned his | ||||||
16 | Navy Wings of Gold in February of 1960; he was discharged from | ||||||
17 | active service in July of 1962, but he continued in the Naval | ||||||
18 | Reserves and retired after 20 years with the rank of Commander; | ||||||
19 | and | ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Dick Emery graduated with a Bachelor of Science in | ||||||
21 | Business and Industrial Management from San Jose State | ||||||
22 | University in February of 1966; he married Betty Lou on |

1 | February 10, 1967; and | ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Dick Emery was hired by United Airlines and began | ||||||
3 | his career in San Francisco then moved to Crystal Lake, where | ||||||
4 | he flew out of O'Hare International Airport; in 1985, he was | ||||||
5 | promoted to captain; he retired in June of 1998 after a career | ||||||
6 | of 32 years; and | ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, In retirement, Dick Emery looked forward to | ||||||
8 | building and living in his dream home with Betty Lou, their | ||||||
9 | yearly trips to Maui with friends and family, and watching his | ||||||
10 | grandchildren learn how to swim; he could always be found | ||||||
11 | poolside working on cryptograph and Sudoku puzzles; he also | ||||||
12 | enjoyed a lively debate; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Dick Emery was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
14 | his sister, Kathy; and his best friend and brother, Bill; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Dick Emery is survived by his wife of 51 years, | ||||||
16 | Betty Lou; his sons, Christopher and Eric; his | ||||||
17 | daughters-in-law, Jennifer and Deanna; his grandchildren, | ||||||
18 | Will, Julia, and Elise; and his sister, Mary Woods; therefore, | ||||||
19 | be it

20 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
21 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |

1 | Richard Lee "Dick" Emery, and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
2 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||

4 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||

6 | deepest sympathy.
