2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of John P. Coffey of Raleigh, North | ||||||
4 | Carolina, formerly of Peoria, who passed away on August 24, | ||||||
5 | 2018; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, John Coffey was born in Peoria to Alice Quinn and | ||||||
7 | William J. Coffey on June 9, 1941; he graduated from Peoria | ||||||
8 | Spalding High School and Lewis University; he earned his Master | ||||||
9 | of Business Administration at Eastern Illinois University; he | ||||||
10 | served as a Sergeant in the United States Army during the | ||||||
11 | Vietnam War; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, John Coffey retired as an Executive Vice President | ||||||
13 | and a member of the chairman's council from State Farm | ||||||
14 | Insurance Company after 33 years of service; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, John Coffey served on the Board of Directors for a | ||||||
16 | variety of organizations, including the McLean County Center | ||||||
17 | for Human Services, Chestnut Health Systems, and the Illinois | ||||||
18 | Chamber of Commerce as well as the Holy Trinity Parish school | ||||||
19 | board in Bloomington; he was the food donation coordinator for | ||||||
20 | St. Peter's Parish in Jupiter, Florida and the director of the | ||||||
21 | Vietnam Veterans Chapter 530 in Durham, North Carolina; he was | ||||||
22 | awarded the Distinguished Alumnae Award from the Eastern |

1 | Illinois University College of Business and served as a leader | ||||||
2 | on their Master's Degree in Business Dean's Advisory Board; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, John Coffey was a devoted parishioner of Raleigh's | ||||||
4 | St. Francis of Assisi Church and volunteered his time as a | ||||||
5 | consultant; he was an ardent college football fan, especially | ||||||
6 | of the University of Notre Dame; he loved a good game of golf | ||||||
7 | with his friends and fishing trips; he was an avid reader, | ||||||
8 | loved traveling with his family, and had a talent for great | ||||||
9 | story telling; he was a mentor, loyal friend, and confident who | ||||||
10 | touched many lives with his advice, generosity, and insight; | ||||||
11 | and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, John Coffey was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
13 | and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, John Coffey is survived by his wife of 52 years, | ||||||
15 | Mary Jo; his daughter, Michelle (Tom) Paul; his son, Mark | ||||||
16 | (Jenny) Coffey; his grandchildren, Peyton and Carter Paul and | ||||||
17 | Quinn Coffey; his brothers, William J. Coffey and Michael P. | ||||||
18 | Coffey; and his beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews; | ||||||
19 | therefore, be it

20 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
21 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
22 | John P. Coffey and extend our sincere condolences to his |

1 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
2 | further
| ||||||
3 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
4 | presented to the family of John Coffey as an expression of our | ||||||
