| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Mary Alice Lanagan, who passed away on |
| 4 | | August 28, 2018; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Mary Lanagan was born in Arkadelphia, Arkansas to |
| 6 | | Otis and Katie Duncan
on September 10, 1936; she met her |
| 7 | | husband, Aaron "AW" Lanagan, in Steele, Missouri in 1955; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Mary Lanagan was an entrepreneur, leader,
and |
| 9 | | pioneer in the world of business; she founded several |
| 10 | | businesses with her husband, Aaron; for over 25 years, they
|
| 11 | | owned and operated the Cheri-Tan Restaurant, Lanagan's Lounge, |
| 12 | | the Gold Crest Grocery, the Nic-n-Pic
Grocery, and the Colossal |
| 13 | | Shrimp House; and |
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Mary Lanagan had a love of cooking and mastered it |
| 15 | | out of her desire to continuously
learn; she collected over 200 |
| 16 | | cookbooks and
had binders full
of recipes; she enjoyed watching |
| 17 | | the Food Network and numerous cooking shows; she loved
the |
| 18 | | revelry of people and welcomed all with open arms, love, |
| 19 | | laughter, and a home-cooked meal; she had a vibrant personality |
| 20 | | and inspired others; and
|
| 21 | | WHEREAS, As a young girl, Mary Lanagan attended St. Paul |
|

| 1 | | Missionary Baptist Church in Steele,
Missouri; after moving to |
| 2 | | Chicago, she became a member of Beth Eden Baptist Church; she
|
| 3 | | later joined St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago; and
|
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Mary Lanagan was preceded in death by her parents; |
| 5 | | her husband, Aaron; her brothers, Jodie and Billy; and her |
| 6 | | sisters, Helen and Fairy; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Mary Lanagan is survived by her children, Cherry |
| 8 | | (Stacy), Samara (Jermaine), Tangie (Floyd), and Nicholas |
| 9 | | (Dorian); her grandchildren, Rachel (Kevin), Chase, Erin, and |
| 10 | | Bryce; her brother, James Duncan; her
sisters, Margaret Snell, |
| 11 | | Maudell Sands, and Dorothy Jean Davis; and numerous of nieces, |
| 12 | | nephews,
cousins, and friends; therefore, be it

| 13 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL |
| 14 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 15 | | Mary Alice Lanagan, and extend our sincere condolences to her |
| 16 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it |
| 17 | | further

| 18 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 19 | | presented to the family of Mary Lanagan as an expression of our |
| 20 | | deepest sympathy.
