SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3learn of the death of Virginia L. Secrest of Wood River, who 
4passed away on August 20, 2018; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Virginia Secrest was born in Mitchell to Herbert 
6J. and Vesta E. (Waggoner) Harshbarger on March 22, 1928; she 
7married Albert Seymore in 1946, and he passed away in 1948; she 
8married Alfred Nagel in 1953, and the marriage ended in 1970; 
9she married Kenneth Secrest in 1976, and he passed away in 
102002; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, Virginia Secrest worked as a clerk and typist for 
12the Granite City Army Depot for 22 years; after retirement, she 
13dedicated herself to honoring veterans of the U.S. Armed 
14Forces; she led efforts to place flags on the graves of 
15veterans in the Upper Alton Cemetery; the hallmarks of her work 
16are the flagpole along Home Adams Parkway and the establishment 
17of the Avenue of Flags flown every Memorial Day; and
  
 
  
18    WHEREAS, Virginia Secrest was preceded in death by her 
19parents; her husbands; her daughter, Linda Seymore; her sons, 
20Terry and Gary Nagel; her stepson, Wayne Allen Secrest; her 
21stepdaughter, Janis Johnson; her three sisters; and her four 
22brothers; and

1    WHEREAS, Virginia Secrest is survived by her sons, Paul 
2(Mary) Nagel, David (Terrie) Nagel, and John (Kim Moore) Nagel; 
3her 13 grandchildren; her 16 great-grandchildren; and her 
4daughters-in-law, Rebecca Nagel and Renee Nagel; therefore, be 
5it
  
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL 
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
8Virginia L. Secrest and extend our sincere condolences to her 
9family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it 
10further
  
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
12presented to the family of Virginia Secrest as an expression of 
13our deepest sympathy.
