SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Robert L. "Bob" Ries of Rock Island, who
4passed away on October 1, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Bob Ries was born in Sterling to Louis A. and
6Esther M. Kiesel Ries on October 22, 1933; he graduated from
7Rock Island High School and earned a bachelor's degree in
8engineering from Bradley University; he was a veteran of the
9United States Army; he married Mary Lou Stribley in Paris,
10Illinois on March 6, 1955; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Bob Ries worked as a service manager for AT&T for
12over 30 years; after his retirement, he worked at KONE for over
13ten years; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Bob Ries was active with the Corn Belt Running
15Club in Davenport; he served as a committee chair for the
16Junior-Bix and Quad Cities Marathon for 20 years; he had a
17passion for volunteering at Niabi Zoo, where he served as an
18animal handler, educator, and interpreter; he enjoyed
19woodworking, gardening, and spending time with his family,
20especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Bob Ries was preceded in death by his parents and

1his brother, James A. Ries; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Bob Ries is survived by his wife, Mary Lou; his
3children, Jim (Deb) Ries, Johnna (Tom) Anderson, and Sue
4(Chris) Propst; his grandchildren, Amanda (Pat) Mitton,
5Kirsten (Austin Flyger) Propst, Jake (Sarah) Anderson, Michael
6(Jessica) Ries, and Christopher (Violet) Propst; and his
7great-grandchildren, Ries and Mason Mitton, Jamison and Colton
8Ries, Savannah Anderson, and Norah Flyger; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Robert L. "Bob" Ries and extend our sincere condolences to his
12family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Bob Ries as an expression of our
16deepest sympathy.
