SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Kenneth Carter "Ken" Gutman, formerly of Waukegan, who passed away on September 13, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Ken Gutman was born in Memphis, Missouri to David and Hazel (Carter) Gutman on May 30, 1921; he was raised on a small farm and graduated high school in 1939; he joined the United States Navy and served during World War II; he was stationed in both the European and Asia-Pacific theaters; and

WHEREAS, Following the war, Ken Gutman joined Abbott Laboratories in North Chicago, where he worked from 1946 until 1986; and

WHEREAS, After he retired, Ken Gutman traveled the world with his wife and visited many countries across Europe, Asia, and South America; he also had a passion for trap and skeet shooting and helped run the Conservation Club of Kenosha for several years; an avid fisherman and hunter, he spent many summers traveling with friends to fish in Canada and the Arctic, which kept his family well stocked with walleye and salmon; he loved to watch football, baseball, and golf; after moving to Michigan at the age of 92, he became a fan of the Detroit Tigers, Lions, and Red Wings; and

WHEREAS, Ken Gutman was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Louise; and

WHEREAS, Ken Gutman is survived by his sons, Gregory (Vicki) Gutman and David (Susan) Gutman; and his grandchildren, Sarah Louise Gutman and Andrew John Gutman; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Kenneth Carter "Ken" Gutman and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Ken Gutman as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
