|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Charlene Mary (Cooper) Hendrickson, who |
4 | | passed away on September 11, 2018; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Charlene Hendrickson was born in Waukegan to |
6 | | Charles and Mary (Teeling) Cooper on January 8, 1933; she |
7 | | graduated from Holy Child Catholic High School in 1951; she |
8 | | earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the College of |
9 | | St. Teresa in 1955; she later married Richard Hendrickson; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Charlene Hendrickson began her career teaching |
11 | | Anatomy, Physiology, and Neurology at St. Therese Hospital in |
12 | | Waukegan; she then accepted a position as a staff nurse at the |
13 | | county hospital; she missed teaching and briefly returned to |
14 | | St. Therese Hospital before accepting a position as in-service |
15 | | director at a long-term care facility; she then transitioned to |
16 | | the Lake County Health Department, Health Facilities Division |
17 | | as an institutional nurse consultant; here, she found a true |
18 | | passion for helping children; she worked with the Illinois |
19 | | Department of Children and Family services for 20 years; and
|
20 | | WHEREAS, For her advocacy, Charlene Hendrickson received |
21 | | the Illinois Governor's Award in 1988; after her retirement, |
22 | | she continued to volunteer in the community and at her church, |
|

1 | | St. Anastasia in Waukegan; at church, she was a Eucharistic |
2 | | Minister of Communion, a CCD teacher, and also helped fill |
3 | | grocery bags for the food pantry; she received the Woman of the |
4 | | Year Award from the Archdiocese of Chicago for her volunteer |
5 | | work; she was a member of the Education Committee of the Child |
6 | | Care Coalition, a board member and chairperson for the annual |
7 | | senior recognition luncheon for the Lake County Council for |
8 | | Seniors, and an advisory board member for the YWCA Child Care |
9 | | Resource and Referral Program; she led by example and modeled |
10 | | unconditional love, honesty, and inner strength; she cherished |
11 | | her family; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Charlene Hendrickson was preceded in death by her |
13 | | husband of 60 years, Richard; her parents; her sisters, Anna |
14 | | Mae Kovacek and LaRaine Vanderpool; her daughter-in-law, Nancy |
15 | | Hendrickson; and her daughter, Susan Hendrickson; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, Charlene Hendrickson is survived by her children, |
17 | | Susan Hendrickson, Thomas (Karen) Hendrickson, Jean (Jerry) |
18 | | Zegar, Brian Hendrickson, David (Nancy) Hendrickson, Kay (Bob) |
19 | | Walker, and Carol (Tim) Radosevich; her grandchildren, Jason |
20 | | and Kyle Radosevich, Tommy, Mary, and Trevor Hendrickson, |
21 | | Christopher, Jonathan, and Emily Zegar, Kelly Besaw, Maddie and |
22 | | Abby Hendrickson, Elizabeth Kroeger, Hannah Walker, Alyssa, |
23 | | Jillian, Michael and Alec Radosevich; her ten |
24 | | great-grandchildren; and her beloved nieces and nephews; |

2 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL |
3 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
4 | | Charlene Mary (Cooper) Hendrickson and extend our sincere |
5 | | condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved |
6 | | her; and be it further

7 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
8 | | presented to the family of Charlene Hendrickson as an |
9 | | expression of our deepest sympathy.
